Summer time can be harsh on your skin if you don’t take care of it properly. The sun’s powerful rays can lead to skin cancer and create serious health issues. Luckily, there are several easy steps you can take to keep your skin looking radiant. Taking care of your skin should be a priority year round but especially during the summer when the sun shines a little brighter. To prevent sun damage, below are some 5 summer skin care tips that any skin type can benefit from and are strongly encourage to follow.

Preload Sunscreen

If you know that you’re going on a vacation where you’ll be exposed to the sun frequently, it is important to preload on sunscreen. A week or two before your vacation, make sure to apply sunscreen to your face and body. This helps build up the outermost layer of the epidermis making it less likely for you to get sunburned. In other words, this basically braces your skin for impact giving your skin enough time to build that protective layer.

Sheer Sunscreen

If you don’t like the way sunscreen sets on your skin, especially if you’re of darker complexion, look for sunscreens that are ultra sheer. This will prevent your skin from looking white or ashy and will absorb quickly into the skin.

Weather Appropriate Products

Make sure to switch out your products when the weather changes. Heavy cream moisturizers should be swapped for water-based moisturizers if you have a normal skin type. If you are generally more oily then you want to stick to gel-based moisturizers.

Self-Tanner

If you like looking tan during the summer but don’t want to sit out in the sun for hours because of the health risks, try switching your moisturizer to one with self-tanner. You can stay moisturized throughout the day while also having a natural glow. Additionally, make sure to check that your moisturizer has SPF incorporated into it.

Carry Facial Mists

The dewy look for the summer is a go to for many! You can achieve this look by carrying a facial mist in your purse. Many facial mists have natural calming minerals that can help reduce redness and blotchiness. When you sweat, you lose minerals, therefore the facial mists will replenish your skin and give it a healthy dewy look.

Treat Sunburns

Make sure to treat sunburns as soon as possible. It is important to carry Aloe Vera to help soothe the skin and calm the redness. Applying hydrocortisone cream and taking aspirin can help reduce inflammation.
