Wear Sunscreen During Quarantine

You may not be thinking about applying sunscreen as you’re spending the majority of your time in doors. However, you should still wear sunscreen during quarantine as it is the most important step in your skin care routine. Sunscreen is essential while you’re indoors because UVA rays aren’t blocked by standard glass windows. UVA rays can pierce through glass windows and penetrate your skin causing your skin to age faster. Additionally, UVA rays can contribute to skin cancer, dark spots, and leather like textured skin. Staying indoors can be a blessing in disguise as it allows you to dedicate time to your skin and treat it properly.

If you’re an active person and are continuing with working out regularly then you will likely need to reapply sunscreen as sweat causes your sunscreen to wear off. If possible don’t rely on the SPF inside your foundation or moisturizer. Make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that has a coverage of at least 30. If you find yourself working near a window to soak up some sun, it is especially important for you to apply sunscreen frequently. It is important that we keep to our normal routines in order to maintain good habits such as applying sunscreen regularly. It can seem tempting to skip out on applying SPF while you are inside, however, this is a great time to take your skin care seriously.

If you’re working from home, you are probably staring at a computer screen for hours on end. The blue light that your computer and smartphone emit can contribute to hyper-pigmentation and dark spots. Long-term blue light exposure can also lead to a weakened skin’s surface and inflammation. There are current studies examining blue lights effects but some studies show that blue light can trigger skin conditions such as melasma. Melasma occurs when the skin is producing more pigment in certain areas. It is important to note that sunscreen doesn’t protect you from blue light. However, mineral sunscreen that contains iron oxide can help repair some of the damage produced by the wavelengths. Like mentioned previously, it is important to use this time to be conscious of our skin care practices and if you don’t already have a skin care routine, now is the perfect time to curate one!
