The Causes of Red Bumps

Red Bumps on Neck

It is very common for red bumps to appear on the skin especially for those with sensitive skin. Not all red bumps are painful or cause discomfort; most of the time, bumps are harmless and will eventually go away. However, it is important to pay attention to your skin because a bump can also be an indicator of cancer or infection. Bumps can arise on the skin for various reasons such as acne, allergic reactions, friction, skin cancer, or infection.

Many people struggle with acne through their teenage years and even in adulthood. Acne looks different on everyone. Some people have clusters of pimples in one area while others have them on their entire face. There are also those that get blackheads or whiteheads all over their skin. Acne can range from mild to moderate and severe. Mild acne is when there’s a small number of pimples or zits on the skin. This can typically get taken care of with topical medication from the pharmacy or light therapy. Moderate acne is when there’s a significant number of inflamed lesions on the skin. This type of acne may require more intense medications such as antibiotics or antiandrogens. Severe acne is the hardest to treat as it requires a strong consistent treatment such as Accutane. If you’re struggling with acne and are looking to purchase products at your local pharmacy the following have proven effective in alleviating acne. Aloe Vera and tea tree oil soothe the skin and reduce inflammation while products that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid fight to kill bacteria on your skin.

If you experience an allergic reaction, your body typically produces an intense response which can often trigger your skin to break out in hives. Hives can appear as red bums or welts on the skin and can be mild and only last for a couple of weeks. However, some people experience chronic hives that can last for months. On a similar note, an individual can develop contact dermatitis. This occurs when an individual physically touches or encounters an allergen. When this occurs, a rash or blister will appear and the skin and will start to itch and burn. It is important to moisturize after a bath and use corticosteroid creams as often as possible.

There are many infections that can cause bumps on the skin such as chickenpox, cold sores, warts and scabies. Chickenpox is common among children and is a viral infection that can affect all parts of your body. Cold sores are also very common, and they appear as lumps and blisters on the face and lips like warts. These types of infections can also be treated with ointments and creams. It is important to inspect your skin frequently in order detect any allergic reaction or infection early on. Occasional red bumps on the skin aren’t something that should be worrisome but make sure to keep an eye on the red bumps that are painful and feel abnormal.
